On Wednesday, December 20th, 2017 in cooperation with Cultural Centre of the Embassy of Islamic Republic of Iran in Belgrade and Iranian Centre at Megatrend University on the premises of our University in Belgrade, a ceremony was held on the occasion of promotion of the Persian language and a winter solstice celebration (Yalda Shab). Traditionally, “Yalda Night” is celebrated in Iran during the longest and darkest night of the year. Historically, ever since Pre-Islamic Persia, the winter solstice celebration has been dedicated to the celebration of the arrival of winter, and the restoration of the daylight and the victory of light over the darkness.

During the ceremony held at Megatrend University, the public had the opportunity to get acquainted with the history of this holiday and the customs following the celebration of Yalda in Iran. Dr. Mohsen Soleimani, the Director of the Cultural Centre of the Embassy of Islamic Republic of Iran in Belgrade spoke to the guests about this ancient Iranian holiday; prof. Katarina Zakić, PhD, Vice-Rector for International Cooperation, in her introductory speech emphasised the importance of learning foreign languages ​​and getting to know other cultures and traditions; prof. Dragan Ćalović, PhD, the Director of Iranian Centre at Megatrend University in his welcoming speech talked about the Centre and its regular activities dedicated to bringing closer rich Iranian culture to the domestic public; professor of Persian language Saeed Safari, highlighted in the speech the importance of the Persian language in contemporary Iranian culture. The students of the Persian language course, Jelena Vidović, Bojan Sretenović, Samedin Rovčanin, Teodora Radovanović and Ana Marojević conveyed their personal impression of Iranian films, poetry, literature and language, talking about their stay in this country as well and all the friends that they made on that occasion.

As a part of the celebration program of Yalda Festival, a ceremonial awarding of diplomas to the students of the Persian language course was organized at Megatrend University in Belgrade in cooperation with the Cultural Centre of the Embassy of Islamic Republic of Iran in Belgrade and as a part of the regular activities of the Iranian Centre at our University. On that occasion, the diplomas of elementary, intermediate, upper-intermediate and advanced level of knowledge of the Persian language were ceremonially awarded to more than forty students, and most of them continued speaking in this language during the ceremonial cocktail, which was accompanied by piano in the central hall of Megatrend University.
